“Gandhi: From Father of the Nation to a Forgotten Name, From Independence to MGNREGA”
Dear Bapu,
When I hear India, the first thing I remember is you.
Through differences and diversity
With regions of their own history and heritage
With great languages and greater cultures
If not you, who could have brought this nation as one?
Years have passed, yet your smiling face still allure us.
Hope and trust; truth and nonviolence
You teach us with your life.
Dear Bapu,
Oppression was your greatest enemy.
Untouchability, a rival you fought hard.
Harmony and unity, you preached until last breath.
But Bapu, I do hate you at times!
Why you made this never possible country, a possibility?
Years have passed, have we achieved real freedom?
Social, gender, economic inequalities, and what not?
Untouchability still exists, caste and religion still hold ground, Bapu!
Dear Bapu,
A dependent economy and indirect slavery!
Nationalism, is but spoken only in public!
A country with so much distress and chaos,
Yet patriotism is fuelled with religious enmity.
A union of nations is what India is.
But the regional importance is neglected and overlooked
You unified this nation against a foreign rule.
Now, the regions of nation are but foreigners to each other’s importance.
Dear Bapu,
Give us the strength
To fight against caste
To fight against inequality
To unify this nation with equal rights.
Dear Bapu,
Teach us to love
Love all those around us.
Guide us as you have guided us before.
Help us build a forever unified equal nation.
