Chennai, January 4, 2026 — Senior Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader L. Ganesan passed away today at the age of 92. He died at his residence in Thanjavur early Sunday due to age-related health issues, family sources said.
Ganesan, fondly known as “LG,” was a veteran Dravidian ideologue and a member of the DMK’s High Level Action Committee. He played a key role in the anti-Hindi imposition agitations of the 1960s and had a long political career spanning roles as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, Member of the Legislative Council, Rajya Sabha member and Lok Sabha MP. He was part of the split, when VAIKO split DMK and formed MDMK. L.G later turned back and found his course once again with DMK.
Chief Minister and DMK president M. K. Stalin expressed deep sorrow over his passing, praising Ganesan’s principled public life and contributions to the party and Dravidian movement, and described his demise as an “irreparable loss.
L. Ganesan is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. Tomorrow in his native town, Kannanthangudi near Orathanadu, his last rites will be held.
