Despite plans for a New Year theatrical release, Salliyargal was denied adequate screens by major cinema chains in Tamil Nadu. Producer Suresh Kamatchi, who backed the film, revealed that the movie was allotted just 27 theatres — an order too small for a meaningful public run — and that PVR Cinemas did not allot a single screen.
